Tests.

June 7th and 8th                                    May 29, 2008

Its official the first two days of filming will begin on the 7th and 8th of June! At the end of April we said we wanted to start shooting around June 6th.....So suit up and lace your boots up, it's war time.

House test.                                         May 28, 2008

I really recommend doing test shooting because we had some minor problems come up...Good thing it wasn't when we were really filming the actual movie. More test pics...Filmin, Drinkin, Chillen........Enjoy

Still shots by Chad.

Busy......                                       May 27, 2008

We have been crazy busy getting the film into order.

Still shots by Chad.

Shotgun Mic  (Rode ntg-2)                           May 25, 2008

We just bought our shotgun mic that we will be using in the film and I also recommend it for its price range!!  Basically a shotgun mic is good for outdoor and acoustically open environments and not so good indoors around reflective environments, whereas a hypercardioid can work in both situations but does not have quite the narrow pickup or extended reach of a shotgun mic.  The biggest rule of thumb for good audio is to get the mic CLOSE to the source --- within 2 feet if you can --- and remember that a cheap $200 dollar mic that is close will generally sound better than a $1000 mic that is far away.

The Studio                                            May 24, 2008

Your own personal editing station is a must have for any filmmaker. With prices dropping and GB's going up almost everyone has a power house setup......Well, here is a sneak peek at ours. 1080i footage flows like water. Oh, and Steve Jobs would be proud.

Thrift Stores = Gold                                    May 23, 2008

If your making a film with a very low budget go to every thrift store you know of. It is a must for all your art department needs. We visited a couple of thrift stores today and found some great props and wardrobes. Were else can you go and get a old high school letterman jacket and a brown flowered button-up tee-shirt for under 10 dollars...?

New lights, New look.....                              May 22, 2008

Snap shots from low lighting test. In the film there is going to be a scene in Chicago with Spree, Jay and Ted which will be very low lighting. Low lighting adds that scary/mystery feeling, so we got to make sure we do it right in the film.

Another day of pre-production                           May 22, 2008

Were still getting everything prepared for the film. Today we built a dolly and a track. The dolly came out to be about 60 dollars and the track was about 20. You can get all the supplies at any hardware store.

Just got off the phone.                               May 21, 2008

Things seem to be looking good for the film. There will be some Cataracs music in the film. If you don't know who they are you can check them out at http://www.myspace.com/cataracs

paper magic                                    May 19, 2008

The bokeh! Everyone wants the bokeh.             May 18, 2008

In the world of video media the bokeh can make your film look more like a real movie. It isn't the easiest thing to achieve and also comes at a cost.  First off, bokeh is the out-of-focus area in your frame. The bokeh is often used to reduce distractions and emphasize the primary subject. It is much easier to create this effect if you have the money and you can buy 35mm lenses for your camera, but first your probably going to need a 35mm adapter. 35mm adapters aren't cheap.... (plus a set of lenses!). It easily makes your film look more professional and less like a t.v or reality show. We don't have the budget to buy the whole package, so were just going to have to work around it. The best way to do this is to zoom all the way in with your camera and have your subject a good distance from the background. This is what we are going to do for a lot of the film. When you don't have the money you have to be creative. Plan and shoot creatively! This picture is a test shot of our main man Chad.

High Definition....NO, EPIC!!                 May 17, 2008

You think high def is clear..?  Well you would be wrong. I mean it does look pretty damn good, but what is good? Ever heard of 2k or 3k or even 4k..? How about 5k!!!! Today's digital video cameras are getting ridiculously insane. The average high definition camera shoots at about 2 million pixels per frame and the red one's EPIC camera shoots about 12 million pixels per frame! You can see how basically it would take seven or eight of the newest 1080p hi-def TVs to show an entire 5K image, and even then it wouldn’t be the whole thing because Red shoots to a special raw format with more color depth than your TV can display. This is just crazy....(in the digital world).

Facebook.....?                                    May 15, 2008

After you got your production in order with equipment your next step would be to find some actors...But how...? A big part in what helped us get a lot of are actors was from facebook. What from facebook..? Yea..., I personally think facebook is childish(Stephanie is has a hair problem.OMG...!!!.) and also retarded. The only reason I'm on it is because it is a great tool in connection. You can search people's majors and interests. So we typed in acting and it showed about 5,000 people. So then go one by one and message them. Next day you have tons of results and potentially your main characters! This could only work while your still young, don't be that washed up 36 year old messaging young girls to be apart of a "independent" project. Also, you would only want to do this if your budget is as low as ours and can't afford a casting director.....

So I thank the internet once again.....

Test after test.  Pure 1080i                               May 14, 2008

Test after test is the only way this film will come out on top. We want to make this film look like a million dollars so tests are mandatory. So, test tell your fingers bleed.

Who said color correction isn't a big deal?        May 13, 2008

Test shoot examples.

What's big and erect and fun to play with?         May 12, 2008

If you were thinking a Crane you are correct. Oh, we bought one.

Found one...Yes                  May 11,2008

Jason's car in the film.

Chase Scene                        May 10, 2008

Jay and Spree hunting for Ted....

Big scene in the film.                  May 10, 2008

Liquor store corner is were they have their big confrontation.

Spree and Jay's house.               May 10, 2008

This will be the place were Ted walks up to the door after he thinks he is being followed.

GoldStar Bar                  May 10, 2008

Location scouting is back in full effect and Goldstar emerges from the depths of Chicago's inner streets..... In other words we have a bar to shoot at.

2.35:1                               May 9, 2008

The film will be 2.35:1. Lets face it 16x9 just wont cut it......So know what aspect ratio you are going to put your film in before you start shooting because there is no going back......

It took awhile but I made a safe grid for my LCD when we are doing hand held shots.

Location scouting has came to a end......For now                     May 8, 2008

We have found some great places for some of the scenes.

Location scouting will begin again in a couple of days.

The house.                     May 8, 2008

We have the house that all the main characters will be living in the film. The house is only used for Ext. shots. Also we got the prefect window for Tom to fall out of....

Park...!                         May 7, 2008

We found our park to shoot at....It's in the middle of no-where which will make the scene even better. Details have been worked out.

Motel check-out.                  May 6, 2008

We went and checked out a motel we thought would be prefect for the film. It was a really nice place the only problem is that there isn't a back window which is very crucial in the movie. We don't have the place yet, but we are going to talk to the head manager next week! So hopefully everything goes well.

Auditions are over!                 May 3, 2008

We did our time and we found some great people to play the roles in the film. We are happy with the turn-out and can't wait to start scheduling dates to shoot.

High Society officially started Pre-Production!             May 1, 2008

Today is May 1st and we started pre-production with Auditions. We did this because this is a low-budget film so all dates will revolve around the actors schedules.

Auditions:

Today: May 1st (Thursday) and May 2nd (Friday)

Where: 5th floor of 1104 S. Wabash (Film Building) Room- 509

Time: 12:30 - 5:00 on both days
